Purpose

To redesign the economy, with key decisions about how it works taken democratically, so that the economy works for the common good, by spreading power and wealth.

Activity

The project explored a people’s approach to wealth and economics, starting from the perspective of people who have directly experienced economic disadvantage.

We recruited a diverse group of young people aged 17-22 from Rochdale.

The group focussed first on awareness and learning, starting from their own experiences to develop their perspectives on wealth and economics. This used questions that related to their real lives.

Once trust had begun to form, the group moved from personal reflection into shared analysis, with a learning process to inform thinking around wealth and economics.

The group started to ask their own questions, which led to them forming their own priorities and agenda. From this, the group created a manifesto and made key recommendations for local agencies.

Impact

The impact of the project is yet to be assessed.
